Born across the bay from New York City in Bayonne, New Jersey I moved to California during my high school days. Yes, there was a culture shock.

For most of my life I’ve been an insecure over-achiever. I often felt I needed to do more or do better. I went to college full-time and worked part time for a while. Then in an effort to wrestle with the world I switched jobs and worked full time. It was in a gas station that did auto repair. I began pumping gas at night and three years later I was a fairly good mechanic and was managing the station. I didn’t mean to, it just happened. As a need arose I took it on. My grades and social life suffered but I loved learning about business, people and auto repair.

My goal was to become a lawyer but after four and a half years of college the circuit breaker on my brain tripped off and I knew I needed out of the education arena for a while. I was hired as a police officer in San Jose, California at the tender age of 22 years.

Almost twenty-nine years later I retired early due to injuries. Along the way my life was nearly taken a number of times and my mind was reborn several times. I resurrected from a negative, pessimistic and angry man into a calm and balanced one who taught the same to others. I owe it to some wonderful mentors including from the martial art Jujitsu.

During my police career I worked in many assignments but mostly on the streets. I learned massage and became an instructor of massage. Yes, I know, quite a contrast from police work. I studied Jujitsu before I was hired as a cop and for years after. I became an instructor and retired with a third degree black belt. I tried my hand at a few part time businesses and hobbies.
I was a police association representative and helped bring more justice and fairness to police officers. It’s ironic that the police are expected, and rightfully so, to treat citizens with respect and to obey rules and laws. Unfortunately those conditions were often ignored in the treatment of police officers as employees. There was much injustice in that profession as occurs in many others. The best world is when employees and supervisors and employers have a mutual respect for each other and they can work together, successfully and honestly.

Yes, I am an idealist.  I love life, love learning and serving others.
Since 2004 I live in Bandon, Oregon, a great town on the Southern Oregon Coast. The economy there has morphed from fishing and timber to tourism and golf. Check it out: Bandon-by-the-Sea

In Bandon I serve my community in a number of ways, train search dogs, have a massage practice and a program called “Relaxed Success”. Some of the information from that seminar and from my upcoming book are on this site.

My purpose in telling you about me, rather than to brag or be self-serving, is to let you know who ‘stands before you’ to offer suggestions. Dealing with me is akin to shopping at the store, take what’s useful and leave the  rest.
